Manchester, NH [May 8, 2019] - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays Double-A) rallied to load the bases in the bottom of the ninth inning, but dropped a 5-3 heartbreaker to the Portland Sea Dogs (Red Sox Double-A) on Tuesday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
Trailing 5-2 after eight innings, the Fisher Cats plated a run with an RBI single from Pat Cantwell and loaded the bases with another base hit and a walk. Jordan Weems was called in from the bullpen and managed to strike out Bo Bichette to end the game.
The Sea Dogs (8-19) had six hits in the fourth inning as part of a five-run rally. Four of those hits did not leave the infield.
Travis Lakins worked three scoreless innings in his third start of the season. Teddy Stankiewicz worked the final 5.2 innings to pick up the win in relief.
Zeuch, promoted this week from Advanced-A Dunedin, took the loss for the Fisher Cats He allowed nine hits and five runs (four earned). He walked one and struck out three batters. New Hampshire's bullpen arms of Danny Young, Zach Jackson and Jose Fernandez pitched five scoreless innings to give the Fisher Cats offense a chance to rally.
New Hampshire (18-10) scored single runs in the fourth and seventh innings. In the fourth, Max Pentecost doubled, advanced to third on a passed ball, and scored on a groundout by Juan Kelly.
The Fisher Cats added another run in the seventh. Harold Ramirez doubled and scored when Connor Panas reached on an error. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. singled in his first at bat, and finished the game 1-for-4 for the Fisher Cats.
The first series of the season with the Sea Dogs concludes on Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. RHP Jon Harris is scheduled to start for the Fisher Cats against Portland RHP Mike Shawaryn. Coverage on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network begins at 6:15 p.m.
