Concord, NH - The McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center seeks volunteers to serve as docents this summer. The Discovery Center will be open seven days/week from mid-June till Labor Day, offering the public an opportunity to have fun exploring science topics ranging from human health to the nature of stars, with two floors of interactive exhibits, an observatory with telescopes set for solar viewing, STEM camps for kids, planetarium shows and special programs.
Volunteers are needed to greet and assist visitors of all ages with the Discovery Center's gallery exhibits and activities. Training begins in June; interested prospective volunteers are asked to contact Visitor Services Coordinator Sherie Moore at smoore@starhop.com or (603) 271-7827 x102 to apply. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and willing to commit to a minimum of four volunteer hours/week; an interview and background check will be required. Volunteer docents at the science museum dedicated to NH Space Pioneers Christa McAuliffe and Alan Shepard have the opportunity to inspire a child to develop a lifelong love of science, to encourage a family to learn about the universe together, to share with a senior visitor, stories of the Space Race, and more.
The McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center features 21st century interactive exhibits on aviation, astronomy, Earth and space sciences, a state-of-the-art planetarium and a variety of science, technology, and engineering and mathematics programs.
