Manchester, NH (6/10/17) - Despite three solo home runs for New Hampshire, Akron's five-run third inning was too much for the Fisher Cats to overcome, as they dropped a 7-5 decision to the Akron Rubber Ducks on Star Wars Night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
Akron's Bobby Bradley hit a grand slam in the third and a solo homer in the seventh inning to pace the Rubberducks offense. New Hampshire had a 1-0 lead in the first on Danny Jansen's second homer in as many days, and led 2-1 in the second thanks to an RBI groundout from Matt Dean. But Bradley's grand slam and a sac fly from Tyler Krieger gave the Rubberducks a 6-2 lead they would not rescind.
Tim Lopes answered the big third inning with a solo homer in the fourth to make it 6-3, but Bradley went deep again in the seventh to extend the lead to 7-3. Matt Dean hit his first Double-A homer of 2017 to get the Fisher Cats within three runs in the bottom of the seventh, and a ninth inning double from Richard Urena plated Derrick Loveless to narrow the score to 7-5 before Neil Holland (S, 5) closed the door.
The Fisher Cats bullpen pitched well, with Justin Shafer, Dusty Isaaacs and Tim Mayza combining to allow just one run in seven innings with 11 strikeouts.
The homestand concludes on Sunday afternoon, with first pitch set for 1:35 p.m.
