Manchester, NH (6/11/17) - Akron broke open a tight game with four runs in the top of the seventh inning and went on to a 7-3 win over the Fisher Cats on Sunday afternoon at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. The Rubber Ducks (28-30) hit two home runs in the top of the seventh inning. Mark Mathias walked and Jordan Smith followed with his first homer of the season. Francisco Mejia added a solo homer in the frame off reliever Alonzo Gonzalez.
Akron's Bobby Bradley, Eric Haase and Joe Sever added singles to extend the lead to 6-1. Sever, who went 3-for-4, added an RBI single in the top of the ninth inning. Akron opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. Smith, who had three hits on the day, beat out an infield single, advanced to third on a double by Mejia, scoring on a groundout by Bobby Bradley. The Rubber Ducks put together two hits to take a 2-0 in the second inning.
Luigi Rodriguez doubled and Mark Mathias knocked him in. The Fisher Cats (24-37) picked up a run in the bottom of the second inning. Tim Lopes walked and scored on a double by Gunnar Heidt. The other New Hampshire run came across when Ryan McBroom singled with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth inning. Heidt doubled and scored on a groundout by Matt Dean in the bottom of the ninth.
Thomas Pannone (2-1) had another impressive outing for Akron, allowing only one run on two hits in his six innings. Jon Harris (2-6) took the loss, although he pitched well for the Fisher Cats, allowing two runs in six innings with five strikeouts.
The Fisher Cats open a six-game road trip on Tuesday night in Richmond, Virginia.
