Hartford, CT - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats dropped a season-high fourth consecutive game Tuesday night, losing 5-3 to the Hartford Yard Goats at Dunkin' Donuts Park.
Hartford struck first in the opening frame. The Yard Goats leveraged back-to-back-to-back two-out base hits to plate a pair and go up 2-0.
The Fisher Cats responded with a two-out rally of their own in the second inning. Emilio Guerrero doubled off of Parker French (W, 2-2), Gunnar Heidt brought him in with a single and advance to second on the throw then newcomer Mike Reeves doubled down the right field line to tie the game 2-2.
A pair of runs in the third inning gave the Yard Goats the lead for good. Starter Shane Dawson (L, 1-4) issued two walks to start the stanza then surrendered consecutive one out RBI singles to put the Colorado Rockies affiliate out in front 4-2.
After both teams went scoreless from the fourth through the sixth, each scored a run in the seventh. New Hampshire loaded the bases with one out but could only muster a sacrifice fly from Jonathan Davis that made it 4-3. Hartford got that run back in the bottom of the inning to retake a two-run lead.
A two-out Derrick Loveless single in the ninth brought the tying run to the plate, but Yard Goats closer James Farris (S, 4) got the next batter to secure the 5-3 win for Hartford.
With the loss, New Hampshire is a season-worst 11 games under .500.
The series wraps up Wednesday morning in Hartford. Sean Reid-Foley (1-3, 7.80 ERA) will start for the 'Cats while Sam Howard (0-2, 2.40 ERA) is set to go for the Yard Goats. First pitch is set for 10:35 a.m. and can be heard locally on AM 610 WGIR or online via iHeartRadio.
The Fisher Cats return to Northeast Delta Dental Stadium on Tuesday, May 16 to play Trenton.
