Manchester, NH - A standing room only crowd of 6,685 saw the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays Double-A affiliate) and Trenton Thunder (Yankees Double-A affiliate) combine for 16 runs and 20 hits on Saturday night at Northeast Delta Stadium, with Trenton prevailing, 10-6.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a double for the Fisher Cats, and now leads the league with 25 RBIs and eight two-baggers.
In the bottom of the first inning, Bo Bichette and Guerrero Jr. hit consecutive doubles to give the Fisher Cats a 1-0 lead.
Trenton moved in front in the top of the third inning when Chace Numata doubled and Vince Conde homered to make it 2-1.
The Thunder broke the game open in the top of the fourth inning, scoring seven times on six hits including a two-run shot from Eastern League leader Jhalan Jackson (his 7th) to take a 9-1 lead.
New Hampshire responded with its biggest inning of the year to cut the lead to 9-6. Guerrero Jr. knocked in another run with a single, with an additional run scoring on an error. Cavan Biggio then hit a sacrifice fly and Conor Panas doubled in two with a rocket off the right center field wall.
The Fisher Cats bullpen performed well in the late innings, with Danny Young tossing two hitless frames with two strikeouts, and Andrew Case twirling a perfect ninth.
The Fisher Cats and Thunder wrap up the three-game series on Sunday afternoon at 1:35 p.m. It's a Velcro Companies Reading Challenge game and kids 12 and under can run the bases after the game courtesy of the New Hampshire State Liquor Commission, Division of Enforcement.
