BINGHAMTON, NY - Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit his third home run of the season Thursday night, but it wasn't enough for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays) in a 10-6 loss to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies at NYSEG Stadium.
Binghamton struck first thanks to a three-run home run from Tim Tebow in the second inning, but New Hampshire responded with five unanswered runs to take a 5-3 lead. Juan Kelly hit his second home run in as many days to tie the game at three in the fourth and the 'Cats added another run in the inning to go out in front. Vlad Jr.'s fifth inning solo shot padded the Fisher Cat advantage, but it turned out to be the last run New Hampshire would score until the ninth.
The Rumble Ponies took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a four-run inning in which they sent all nine hitters to the plate, and a three-run seventh - thanks in part to a pair of bases loaded walks - put the game out of reach.
Kirby Snead was excellent in his Double-A debut for the 'Cats, going an inning and a third without allowing a hit or a run while walking one and striking out two less than a day removed from his call-up from Advanced-A Dunedin.
Bo Bichette did not start the game but came on as a replacement after an ejection and went one for one with a walk and a run scored. Cavan Biggio was 1-3 with a double, two walks and a run scored. Harold Ramirez and Gunnar Heidt each had two hits apiece, with the latter driving in a run and scoring once.
It's the first time New Hampshire has lost back-to-back games this season.
The series continues tomorrow night in Binghamton. RHP Francisco Rios will go for the Fisher Cats while RHP Scott Copeland will start for Binghamton. Coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. ET and continues with first pitch at 7:05 p.m. on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network.
