Manchester, NH [6/5/18] - Despite three hits from Harold Ramirez, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays Double-A affiliate) were handed a 13-3 loss by the Akron RubberDucks (Cleveland Indians) on Tuesday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
The Fisher Cats opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Jonathan Davis reached on a single and advanced to third on a base hit from Bo Bichette. Vlad Guerrero Jr. knocked in his 55th run of the season with a groundout to put New Hampshire up 1-0.
Akron would take the lead in the top of the second inning. Catcher Sicknarf Loopstock started the two-out rally with his ninth homer of the season. Ka'ai Tom singled and Sam Haggerty walked, with both scoring on a double into the right field corner by Tyler Krieger to make it 3-1.
The RubberDucks sent nine men to bat in the top of the fifth inning to break the game open. The frame included an RBI single by Joe Sever and Connor Marabell's single gave Akron a 7-1 lead.
New Hampshire cut the lead to 7-3 in the bottom of the inning. Jonathan Davis singled and scored on a single by Cavan Biggio. Biggio advanced to second on a single by Max Pentecost, and scored on a single by Harold Ramirez.
Akron scored four more runs in the top of the seventh inning to make it 11-3. The inning featured RBI singles for Sam Haggerty and Krieger, while Andrew Calica ripped a two-run double. The RubberDucks extended the lead to 13-3 in the eighth with a sac fly from Loopstock and an RBI single by Haggerty.
The Fisher Cats were led offensively by Ramirez (3-for-4, 2B, RBI), Bichette (2-for-3, BB) and Davis (2-for-5, 2 R).
The series between New Hampshire and Akron continues on Wednesday at 10:35 a.m. for STEM in the Stadium Day. We'll pack the park with local students for one last day of fun (with some learning) in the sun with their classmates before summer break.
