Erie Extends Win Streak To Eight With Twinbill Sweep.

Manchester - Erie's Christian Stewart belted a grand slam in the top of the sixth inning to lift the SeaWolves to a 5-1 win over the Fisher Cats and a doubleheader sweep in New Hampshire on Wednesday.

Trailing 1-0, New Hampshire tied the second game in the bottom of the fifth inning on a single by Michael De La Cruz and an RBI double by Matt Dean.

Erie (29-27), in extending a win streak to eight games, loaded the bases on a couple of singles and a walk, chasing starter Conner Greene (2-5). Stewart hit his 15th homer on the first pitch by reliever Tim Mayza to make it 5-1. Waldes Joaquin (2-2) earned the win in relief and Jairo Labourt pitched two scoreless innings in relief to finish for the SeaWolves.

Greene allowed four runs, three earned, in five innings. He walked four and struck out four for New Hampshire (22-35).

Erie took the first game of the doubleheader as 20-year old Beau Burrows (1-0) won his Double-A debut, outdueling MLB Rehabber Glenn Sparkman (0-1).

The Fisher Cats took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, loading the bases on a single and two walks. Jonathan Davis scored on a double play grounder by Ryan McBroom.

Home runs by Erie's Kody Eaves in the third and Gabriel Quintana in the fourth were the difference in the game. Eaves hit a solo shot in the third and Quintana launched a two-run homer off Sparkman in the fourth to put the SeaWolves up 3-1.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, New Hampshire again loaded the bases. McBroom, who reached on a fielders choice, scored on a sacrifice fly by Andrew Guillotte to trim the lead to 3-2.

Burrows allowed two runs on four hits, walking four and striking out five. Kurt Spomer pitched two scoreless innings to earn his second save.

Justin Shafer and Josh DeGraaf combined to pitch 3.1 scoreless innings in relief for New Hampshire in the first game.

Richard Urena extended a hit streak to 11 games in the first game, but went 0-for-3 in the second game for New Hampshire.

The series with Erie concludes on tonight at 6:35 p.m. at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
