Reading, PA [May 19, 2017] Reading second baseman Scott Kingery launched his second home run of the game to lead off the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Fightin Phils a 7-6 win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats Friday night at First Energy Stadium.
The win, Reading's sixth straight, spoiled a solid comeback effort by the Fisher Cats (12-28), who rallied from down 6-2 to send the game to extra innings.
New Hampshire's bullpen of Josh DeGraaf, Justin Shafer and Dusty Issacs (1-2) had
combined for 5.1 scoreless innings before the Kingery homer to end the game.
The Fisher Cats opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. Jonathan Davis singled and scored on a triple by Tim Lopes. Ryan McBroom followed with a groundout, plating Lopes to make it 2-0.
Reading (23-13) scored in the bottom of the third inning. Malquin Canelo singled, stole second and would eventually score on a sacrifice fly by Osmel Aguila.
The Fightin Phils pulled ahead in the fourth, chasing New Hampshire's starter. Kyle Martin, Kingery and Osmel Aguila all hit home runs in the frame off Shane Dawson to give Reading the lead at 6-2.
New Hampshire erased the deficit with a single run in the fifth and three in the sixth inning. The Fisher Cats had three RBI hits in the sixth inning by McBroom, Danny Jansen (3-for-4) and Emilio Guerrero.
Jesen Therrien (2-1), the fourth pitcher of the game for the Fightin Phils, worked around two hits in the top of the tenth inning to earn the win in relief.
The series continues on Saturday night at 6:05 p.m. in Reading. The Fisher Cats to turn to RHP Chris Rowley (0-1, 2.19) while the Fightin Phils will start Drew Anderson (3-0, 4.67).
