Jon Harris Strikes Out Seven
Reading Salvages Finale Of Series With 4-2 Win Monday!
Manchester, NH [May 29, 2017] Jon Harris allowed two runs with a season-high seven strikeouts, but Reading salvaged the final game of a four-game series in New Hampshire with a 4-2 win at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium on Monday afternoon.
After a 53 minute delay at the start for rain, Eastern League home run leader Scott Kingery hit the first pitch of the game for his 16th home run. Reading then loaded the bases on a hit batter and two walks. Osmel Aguila's sacrifice fly put the Fightin Phils up 2-0. Those would be the only runs allowed by Harris, making his tenth start for the Fisher Cats (19-30).
New Hampshire put together four singles in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie Reading at 2-2. Gunnar Heidt and Derrick Loveless picked up the first two hits. Jonathan Davis knocked in Heidt and Richard Urena drove in Loveless.
Reading, in snapping a nine-game losing streak, scored single runs off Fisher Cats reliever John Stilson in the seventh and eighth innings. Andrew Pullin hit the game-winning sacrifice fly in the seventh, scoring Kingery, who had doubled. Mitch Walding ripped an RBI double in the eighth to make the score 4-2.
Stilson (0-1) was tagged with the loss in his first game with New Hampshire in 2017. Tim Mayza recorded a perfect top of the ninth.
Brandon Leibrandt allowed two runs in 5.2 innings for Reading before turning it over to the bullpen. Joey DeNato (3-1) earned the win and Colton Murray recorded the final eight outs for his first save for the Fightin Phils (24-22). Murray struck out five New Hampshire hitters.
The Fisher Cats open a six-game road trip on Tuesday in Harrisburg, PA.
