AKRON, OH - T.J. Zeuch turned in the best performance by a New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays) starter this season, blanking the Akron RubberDucks (Indians) over eight innings to lead the 'Cats to a 3-0 win at Canal Park Thursday night.
New Hampshire started the scoring in the top of the fifth. After Harold Ramirez reached on an error, moved to second on another error and advanced to third on a fly out, Gunnar Heidt singled past a drawn-in infield to plate Ramirez and put the 'Cats up 1-0.
As it turned out, that would be all Zeuch needed. The Mason, Ohio native was stellar over eight stanzas, limiting the 'Ducks to two hits without allowing a run. He walked one and struck out four to earn his fifth consecutive win.
The 'Cats added two in the eighth for insurance, thanks in part to a Jon Berti RBI single. Jose Fernandez recorded the final three outs to earn the save and secure the 3-0 triumph.
With the win, the Fisher Cats take take two of three in Akron and split the season series with the RubberDucks three games apiece.
New Hampshire travels to Altoona, PA tonight to begin a three-game series with the Curve (Pirates) tomorrow evening at Peoples Natural Gas Field. RHP Josh DeGraaf of the Fisher Cats will be opposed by LHP Cam Vieaux. Coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. and continues with first pitch at 7:00 p.m. on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network.
