Manchester, NH - Christian Lopes beat out an infield single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to give the New Hampshire Fisher Cats a 6-5, walk-off win over Portland onTuesday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
With the game tied 5-5, Jason Leblebijian walked to start the bottom of the ninth and moved to second an Emilio Guerrero sacrifice. The Sea Dogs intentionally walked Derrick Loveless, who had homered twice in the contest. Both runners advanced on a deep fly by Shane Opitz ahead of the Lopes winning ground ball.
The Fisher Cats (38-47) scored single runs in each of the first three innings. In the first, Lopes singled and scored on a long double to center by Rowdy Tellez. Loveless homered in the second and Roemon Fields singled and scored on a Ryan Lavaranway single in the third for a 3-0 lead.
New Hampshire scored again in the fourth inning. Dwight Smith Jr. walked, moved to third on a single by Leblebijian. Guerrero picked up his first RBI of the season for the Fisher Cats with a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 4-0.
Portland took the lead in the fifth inning. With two outs, Yoan Moncada walked and Mauricio Dubon tripled him home. Andrew Benintendi followed with a home run that ended the night for Fisher Cats starter Jason Berken. Nate Frieman then singled and Sean Coyle homered to put the Sea Dogs up 5-4.
Loveless tied the game at 5-5 with his second home run of the game leading off the bottom of the seventh inning for the Fisher Cats.
New Hampshire relievers Brady Dragmire, John Stilson and Tim Mayza (1-2) did not allow a baserunner over the final 4.1 innings, retiring 13 straight. Mayza (1-2) earned his first Double-A win. Austin Maddox (2-1) took the loss for the Sea Dogs.
