Manchester, NH - Tim Lopes drilled his first home run of the season in the bottom of the 11th inning to give the Fisher Cats a 4-3 win over Reading on Friday night in the opener of a four-game series at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
Andrew Case (2-0) tossed three innings of scoreless relief to earn the win. New Hampshire's three relievers combined to limit Reading to one hit in five scoreless innings after starter Shane Dawson worked the first six frames.
Reading (23-20) ripped three singles, scoring twice in the top of the first inning. Scott Kingery and Malquin Canelo started the games with hits and both advanced on a wild pitch. Andrew Pullin's groundout plated Kingery ahead of an RBI single by Jiandido Tromp.
Carlos Tocci added an RBI single in the top of the third to lift the Fightins to an early 3-0 lead.
New Hamphire (17-29) scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the third inning. With Derrick Loveless and Richard Urena on base having reached on errors, both scored on a single by Ryan McBroom. Reading starter Tyler Viza struck out seven in his six innings, leaving with a 3-2 lead.
The Fisher Cats tied the game against Reading reliever Colton Murray on consecutive two-out eighth innings doubles by McBroom and Harold Ramirez.
The series continues on Saturday at 6:05 p.m.
