Manchester, NH (7/08/16) - Christian Lopes had three hits including an RBI double, but a late Fisher Cats rally fell short in a 9-7 loss to Binghamton on Friday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
New Hampshire (39-49) scored the final five runs of the game, and had several chances to tie in the late innings. They scored a run in the eighth when Jorge Flores reached on an error, but left the bases loaded. The Fisher Cats also loaded the bases in the ninth, scoring runs on a fielders choice and another Mets error, but couldn't get the final two.
The Mets (39-48) hit the board in the top of the third inning. Maikis De La Cruz walked and Champ Stuart followed with a bunt single. Derrik Gibson doubled in one run and Stuart scored on a sacrifice fly by Matt Oberste for a 2-0 lead.
For a second straight night, the Fisher Cats were victimized by a big inning in the middle of the game. The Mets rolled out to a 7-0 lead, scoring five times in the top of the sixth inning.
After the Fisher Cats made it 7-2 on a sacrifice fly by Dwight Smith Jr. and a groundout by Jason Leblebijian, Binghamton hit right back for two in the top of the seventh inning.
Lopes and Lavarnway had RBI hits in the bottom of the seventh inning to make it 9-4.
Rainy Lara (5-7) earned the win, allowing just two unearned runs in six innings. David Roseboom finished up for his third save. Jeremy Gabryszwski (5-6) took the loss.
