Manchester, NH [May 7, 2017] 21-year old Binghamton second baseman Dale Burdick homered twice in the top of the fifth inning and Jio Mier added a grand slam in a 10-run frame to lift the Rumble Ponies to a 12-4 win over New Hampshire on Sunday at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
Donovan Hand (1-0) picked up his first win for Binghamton (16-10), allowing four runs (three earned) over seven innings.
The Fisher Cats (10-19) scored the first three runs of the game in the bottom of the second inning. Ryan McBroom walked and Harold Ramirez and Gunnar Heidt followed with singles to load the bases. Newcomer Patrick Cantwell singled in two runs in his first at bat with New Hampshire and Derrick Loveless hit a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.
McBroom reached on a missed fly ball in the bottom of the third inning, scoring from second on a base knock by Ramirez to make it 4-0.
Binghamton scored the game's final 12 runs, including one in the fourth on a solo homer by Kevin Taylor. They tacked on ten in the top of the fifth inning, chasing New Hampshire starter Francisco Rios (3-3). Dale Burdick homered to start the frame, Mier hit a grand slam, and Burdick homered for a second time.
The Rumble Ponies took three of the four games at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium in the series.
New Hampshire opens a seven game road trip on Monday night in Hartford.
