Chatham, NH
Tucked away in a corner north of Conway and west of Fryeburg, ME sit the town of Chatham. The best way to get there is using Maine Route 113.
The Cold River makes a brief appearance in New Hampshire, and the Cold River Campground sits on its banks. This is a rustic campground offering cabins or campsite, and has bathrooms and showers. This is a truly "back to nature" site, with fishing and thrilling views of the White Mountain National Forest.
The Chatham trails Association oversees about 30 trails in the area, and has persevered over the years to forge relationships with landowners and government agencies to allow trail access.
The Congregational Church in Chatham is a celebrity of sorts, as it was featured in a segment on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson in the 1980s called "O Holy Child" starring Chatham resident, Kelly Muse, then 5 years old.
Chatham is a small town, however, a variety of dining and lodging are available in North Conway (about 20 miles) or Fryeburg, ME (about 13 miles).
This town is an "out of the way" destination that offers many outdoor activities, and great scenery.
