Should You Retire To A Motor Home?
Things to consider before embracing an RV lifestyle.
Motor homes are a way of life for those who do not want to be restricted at one place and want to explore as much of the world as they can. However, it is not only the young couples or adventure seekers who are opting for these vehicles, as an astonishing rise has been seen in the number of people who are in the retiring age and are buying motor homes to live in them full time. If you are retiring and envision a motor home as your new residence, then read these pros and cons.
Pros
The freedom to travel, while enjoying the comforts of home, is incomparable. You do not have to let go of the luxuries, just because you are always on the road. You have beds, sofas, kitchen, bathroom and all the basic facilities which you require for a decent living.
You do not have to worry about paying monthly rent, mortgage, property taxes, or most utilities. You can frequently avoid paying hefty hotel room rents while you travel across the country.
You can visit places all over America that you always wished to, but could not find the time for. You can meet and share your experience with so many people on your way, who are living in their motor homes just like you.
If you are an avid traveler, then living in a motor home gives you freedom from the tedious task of packing and unpacking your luggage every time you travel.
Cons
Motor homes are usually not designed for full time use. Many people will find the smaller space confining over time.
At times you might find it difficult to park or drive your motor home in crowded cities. Where city space is available, you will likely pay steep nightly pad fees. Rural areas tend to be more accommodating. Many Walmarts will allow you to park free overnight.
As you collect more and more gadgets, batteries and on-board generators can sometimes have difficulty supplying the load.
Personal privacy is reduced, as there is less space and you will be in close proximity to your co-passengers almost all the time.
On average a motor home will require more maintenance than a traditional brick and mortar home.
Typical residences usually appreciate in value over time. Like any motor vehicle, motor homes typically depreciate in value, and because they can be expensive to purchase, you will love the majority of your equity over 10-15 years of time.
