Franconia, NH [May 22, 2018] - Plans are underway for the 9th Annual Sunrise Ascent on Mt. Washington (SAMW) set for August 5, 2018. This unique event is a fundraiser for the Adaptive Sports Partners of the North Country (ASPNC). Adaptive Sports Partners provides over 20 different sport, recreation and wellness activities for people of all ages and any ability. Before sunrise, teams led by an adaptive athlete ascend the eight mile Mount Washington Auto Road, to summit 6,288-foot Mount Washington. Each team pledges to raise at least $6,288. This year, 13 athletes have signed up for the challenge and ASPNC has just put out the call for volunteers to join them in this inspirational adaptive journey. Registration for mules and trail angels open until June 18, 2018 at www.SunriseAscent.org.
There are many ways to participate, volunteer, and donate to the Sunrise Ascent.
AMW Mules on each team hike alongside an independent athlete or help an athlete needing assistance to make the ascent. Mules attend at least one training hike and pledge to raise at least $355 towards their team goal of $6,288. A nonrefundable registration fee per mule is $62.88, one cent per foot of the mountain's height.
Trail Angels are volunteers who are unable to make the climb. Their role is to assist a SAMW team with the solicitation of donations.
Roadrunners drive their own or assigned empty cars up the auto road to transport victorious teams back down the Mount Washington Auto Road to celebrate their ascent.
Bottom Side Brunch volunteers provide support by donating goods for the celebratory brunch after the climb.
SAMW seeks to raise over $62,880 to help fund the operating budget of ASPNC. Through our mission fulfillment, thousands of participants have been encouraged to maximize their abilities. Your contribution will help change and enrich the lives of people of all abilities.
