Casting For Kirby Announced
9th Annual event to be held May 26, 2018.
Waterville Valley, NH - Memorial Day Weekend marks the traditional start of summer at Waterville Valley and fun activities are scheduled for all ages this coming Saturday morning. Events from fishing to face painting will be held plus live music for adults.
The fun begins at 8am on Saturday morning with the 9th annual Casting for Kirby Youth Fishing Derby. The competition is divided for kids ages 7 and under and children from 8 to 15 whose goal will be to try to catch Corcoran Pond's elusive trout Kirby.
Both groups will receive their own top three prizes and the first 100 registrants will receive t-shirts. Additional awards will be earned for both the largest and smallest fish caught. Members from Boy Scout Troop 56 & Trout Unlimited will be on hand as impartial fish size recorders.
The event's grand prize is a complete kayak package. A Razor go kart will also be awarded among the many prized distributed courtesy of several local sponsors. Activities include a raffle and door prizes and a casting competition with its own awards. Some parent participation prizes will also be awarded. (Unconfirmed rumors suggest rounds of golf may be among them!)
Action on the pond should be good: besides holdover fish from previous years' stocking, 250 trout will be placed in the pond for the event.
Additional family friendly entertainment will also be provided, including a presentation by NH Balloon Man, face painting, boat rentals (extra fee), story hour by the Rey Center and a visit with Bruce the Moose and Curious George. Police cruisers and fire trucks will also be on hand for a 'touch a truck' like display.
The event, known for its big prizes and fun atmosphere, requires a $6 registration fee by Friday, May 25 or $10 onsite. Register at www.watervillevalley.org/recreation.
All the activities will be held at the Waterville Valley Town Square.
