PITTSBURG, NH - At approximately 8:00 PM on Tuesday July 3, 2018, authorities from the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department recovered the body of a 65-year-old Hookset man from 3rd Connecticut Lake in Pittsburg following a vehicle submersion.

Shortly before noon, Fish and Game Conservation Officers were alerted to a vehicle that had gone into the lake, located in the far northern section of Pittsburg, near a boat launch. The initial call reported that two passengers in the vehicle had escaped and made it to shore, but the driver was unaccounted for

Rescue personnel from Pittsburg Fire, 45th Parallel EMS, Pittsburg Police, an Errol Rescue Diver and Fish and Game Dive team members responded to the incident. Dive team members made several dives over the course of 5 hours, in the dark, murky waters of the lake, locating the Chevy Pickup truck in 35 feet of water approximately 165 feet from shore, but were unable to locate the body of the missing man. Just minutes before 8:00 PM, a crew scanning the surface of the water located the body outside of the immediate search area on the southeast side of the lake.

The 65-year old victim has been identified as David Bonnett, a resident of Hookset, NH who was vacationing in Pittsburg. It is unknown what happened to cause Bonnett to drive into the lake, but it does not appear that drugs or alcohol were factors in this case. An autopsy to determine the cause of death will be performed by the States Medical Examiner.
