The choruses from Handel's beloved Oratorio "Messiah" will be offered as a Workshop and Sing-along for any who would like to participate on Saturday, July 8th, from 1 pm to 4 pm at the Medallion Opera House in Gorham's Town Hall. Participants will be asked to bring a donation and a score from which to sing. For those who would like to prepare the choruses prior to the Workshop, rehearsals in June will be offered as well.
A small orchestra playing Baroque instruments will be conducted from the harpsichord by Susan Ferré whose first full-length performance of the work in 1984 garnered this comment from the reviewer: "The performance was authentic and exciting... the standing-room only audience justifiably went wild." (Dallas Morning News)
For thirty-five years, Ferré has coached church musicians and conducted original instrument performances of the work which have been met with excitement and critical acclaim. She is best known in the area as Director of the Big Moose Bach Fest and co-founder and director of Music in the Great North Woods, a non-profit which will help with publicity and arrangements.
