NH Annual Harvest Festival
Harvesting the Past at Remick Museum & Farm in Tamworth
TAMWORTH VILLAGE, NH - On Saturday, September 26, from 11am to 3pm, Remick Country Doctor Museum & Farm in Tamworth Village will mark the change of seasons with its 11th annual Harvest Festival. This signature event takes place on the grounds of the 200+-year-old Remick farmstead and celebrates the agricultural life in New England, past and present, and the historic agricultural practices, crafts, trades, traditions and pastimes that have been passed down to each new generation.
The 100-acre property will be open for self-guided tours of the farmstead's barns, buildings, and Museum Center. Across the farm, visitors will see historic and modern haying equipment and agricultural demonstrations on the grounds and in the gardens. Among other activities, festival attendees will be encouraged to try their hand at seasonal tasks, such as apple cider pressing, corn grinding, and silage cutting.
Attendees will have the opportunity meet and greet farm animals with the guidance of a farmer. Pastimes will include tractor-pulled wagon rides, a pie-eating contest (for adults, limited participation) and children's crafts. Featured seasonal games for all ages will be a hay-bale maze, pumpkin bowling, pumpkin ring-toss, a farm-themed obstacle course and turkey "shoot" game. A foliage walk on the farm's Binsack Trail, offering views of the farmstead, will also be available.
This year's celebration will offer demonstrations of woodturning, fiber arts, gardening, plant medicine, chair caning, and chainsaw safety. Vendors will be on hand to sell their handcrafted products. Remick-Made products and local artisan's goods will also be for sale.
Visitors will "taste the season" through samplings of fresh-pressed apple cider, various apple varieties and apple cider vinegar. Farmhouse Kitchen foods will be for sale, including caramel apples, fresh-baked pumpkin sweets, apple crisp, and a lunch of Harvest Bean Soup, Pumpkin Soup, and fresh-baked bread. Farm stand produce and farm-raised ground meats will also be on sale. Students from Kenneth A. Brett School in Tamworth will be selling fresh-popped popcorn.
