Cannon Aerial Tram
(603) 823-8800
Adjacent to Cannon Mountain's ski area is the all-season tramway. This is a great way to enjoy super scenery in a time efficient way. Not only will it please all members of the family, it's a good way to get several generations to the top of a mountain.
The ascent takes less than ten minutes, and the operator will identify the landmarks along the way. Each gondola can hold up to 80 people. Mustard (the yellow tram) and Ketchup (the red one) will whisk you up the 4,000 foot mountain.
Skier Alexander Bright developed the idea of a tram in New Hampshireâ€"after seeing the cleverness and popularity of such gondolas in the Alps. After serving as a member on the US Olympic Ski Team in the early 1930s, he vowed to bring the technology to the White Mountains, and construction was completed in 1938.
The original trams operated for over 40 years, and were replaced in 1980.
There is an observation deck with 360 degree views, a cafeteria and a bar. Many folks prefer a breather on the rocks, enjoying the scenery. It's a smart move to impress that date, should you be wise enough to bring along a romantic lunch to nibble as you enjoy the great views from the summit.
The tramway is easily accessible from I-93 at exit 34-B.
