On Saturday, September 26 Chef Michael "Woody" Woodman of The Valley Pub & Grill will be defending his trophy and $200 cash prize when he and a half dozen other chefs spar in the 17th Annual Chili Challenge in the Waterville Valley town square. His mild chili, an old family recipe, utilizes beef, pork and kidney beans, made smooth with crème fresh & cheddar jack blend commingled with secret spices. He enjoys the competition but just hopes that people enjoy his food, even if he doesn't win the coveted "best chili" title. He's watching out for the Conference Center, always stiff competition.
Attendees pay a small sampling fee of $7.50 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. After tasting each contender's entry, you can cast your vote for your favorite recipe. Chili sampling is noon to 2:00pm, and a Brew Tent will be open until 4 pm featuring Pacifico, Negra Modelo Draft, and Sierra Nevada. The
Uncle Steve Band will provide live music from noon to 3:00pm. Over 500 people are expected to attend.
